10 Year High School Reunion

I can't believe that TEN YEARS have passed since I graduated
high school.... I'm now officially one of "those old people" that
my younger self always pitied! You know, the one who can't function
past midnight, who has an internal alarm clock that won't let her sleep
past 7:00, who would rather spend most Friday evenings at home, in her
sweats, watching a redbox movie while eating kettle corn, and if she's
feeling a little crazy, will drink a root beer! Yeah, that's my life now.

BUT, I'm 100% content with where I am at this point in my life, and I
didn't even dread my high school reunion (like so many often do). I
graduated with a relatively small class, around 100 people, and although
Facebook has made it much easier to keep up with what's happening in
everyone's lives, I was excited to catch up with friends I hadn't seen for years.

So Saturday was the big day. Even though I knew for ten years that it was
coming, it kinda crept up on me! Weird. Unfortunately, I've been sick for
over 3 weeks now, and Saturday was actually one of the worst days I'd had.

But, because my sis was one of the people in charge of planning the reunion,
I, of course, had to help her! And I ended up spending a good portion of
Friday and Saturday helping set everything up. I was pretty much exhausted
by the time the reunion actually started. At any rate, I'm so glad I went and
stayed the whole time - I loved seeing everyone, meeting their spouses, fiance's
and significant others, and had fun dancing, eating, and laughing! Too bad I
look sick and tired in every picture. Oh well!! Better luck next time, I suppose.
**I found my necklace in New York City the weekend before the
reunion.... the pictures don't do it justice because it was so pretty!**

A special part of the reunion decoration honored our friend
who was tragically killed in a wreck shortly after graduation.
Antwuane was everyone's friend and he will always be missed
and remembered. His picture was set up at the entrance, along with
our senior yearbook, a chalkboard welcome sign, and some music playing.

We had the reunion at The Palms, which is a smaller reception
hall about 20 minutes from our high school. It was catered by
Le Bistro, a delicious restaurant, and they served heavy appetizers.
For entertainment, there was a DJ, and a photo area with lots of props.

Although only 27 alumni were able to come, it was a really
nice time and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!
Hoping that some people who didn't come to this one, for one
reason or another, will be able to come to the next. They missed out!

My Old Kentucky Home, Gala 2013

This past weekend, my husband and I got to
attend a gala for the Paramount Arts Center in
Ashland, KY.  This is the third year we've gone, and I
absolutely LOVE going!

The theme this year was "My Old Kentucky Home."
The entrance boasted two life-size horse statues, as well
as multiple carriages that served as seating for people
who needed to step outside (mainly to smoke).

When walking in, the focal point was a giant
picture of an old Kentucky home, complete with
the white fence that is so common in Kentucky.
The display areas on the sides of the picture were so
beautiful too! It was gorgeous.

During cocktail hour, there was a small band that played
old country music - a banjo, upright bass, and a couple guitars.
It made for a fun atmosphere!

The signature drink was some kind of Peach Arnold Palmer,
served in a mason jar with a straw.... I love mason jars!

There were four different kinds of centerpieces on
the tables, each one was just gorgeous! And the
table linens looked like burlap, but were a much
nicer quality. I just loved everything about it!

The food was all delicious, but my favorite presentation of food
was definitely the salad - it came with a cracker in the shape of
a horseshoe! So impressive!

Isaiah and I had a great time.... of course I love any excuse to get dressed
up! I bought the dress and rented Isaiah's tux, but didn't actually have to buy
anything else.  I did my own makeup and fingernails, a girlfriend did my hair
and toenails (thanks Tiffani!), and I already had the jewelry, shoes, and clutch.

Got the earrings about a year ago from a street vendor in New York!

It's hard to tell, but the shoes are an animal print too!!

My friend did a great job on my hair... this is
AFTER the gala, and it still looks good!!

Love it that Leslie gets to keep coming to this
event too... Isn't this dress just stunning on her?!?

And of course, my date was the most handsome one
there!! He looks so good all dressed up, and it's not often
that I get to see him like this!!!

In addition to dinner and dancing with a live band, there's also a silent auction
at the gala... and Isaiah and I won ALL 5 things we bid on! A bunch of
restaurant gift certificates, movie tickets, and Isaiah got some tools or
something. And at the end of the night is the big raffle ticket drawing - first
place wins $20,000!!! Maybe I'll be a big winner next year!!
It was SUCH a fun time, and I already can't wait to go back in 2014!

Gala 2012 aka Adult Prom

This past weekend I went to a Gala that was a fundraiser for the
Paramount Arts Center in Ashland KY. It's basically a bunch of old
people getting dressed up like they are going to prom. And I eat it up!
It's nice to see my hubbie all dressed up in a tux, and I love everything
about dress shopping, picking out jewelry, shoes, and a hairstyle.

I found my dress for a GREAT price - $100!!! I spent another $5 to get it hemmed
and have the strap taken up.  I found my earrings and bracelet at a store in New
York when I went there with some friends a few weeks ago - everything was 50% =)
I already had shoes and a clutch that worked perfectly and I did my own nails and makeup.

Anyways, my mom and dad wanted to see us all dressed up, so we stopped by their
house on our way to the Gala. And of course, we stood outside and took "prom pictures."
My husband, who is 33 years old, even got asked which prom he was going to when he
picked up his tux! We had lots of fun at the Gala and even won two items from the
silent auction. We ate good food, although it didn't quite fill Isaiah up - our "afterparty"
was going to the Wendy's drive thru!

I definitely hope we get to go back next year... I'll take any excuse to get dressed up!!!
